How the answer is worked out

A quicker way

Find 1% of 2 first: 2 ÷ 100 = 0.02. Then count how many of those fit into 100: 100 ÷ 0.02 = 5,000.

Because 2 × 50 = 100, multiply both numbers by 50: 100 × 50 = 5000, so the answer is 5000% with no division needed.

Work backwards: 5,000% of 2 is 50 × 2 = 100. Getting 100 back shows the answer is right.

Rounded to a whole number the percentage is 5,000, to one decimal place 5000.0 and to two decimal places 5000.00. Round only at the end: rounding halfway through a calculation can change the last digit.

The formula explained

percentage = part ÷ whole × 100. The part is the number you are asking about and the whole is the number after “of”. Dividing gives the fraction of the whole, and multiplying by 100 turns that fraction into a number out of 100.
