How to work it out
- Turn the percentage into a decimal: 16 ÷ 100 = 0.16
- Multiply: 0.16 × 9 = 1.44
- Check: Work backwards: 1.44 ÷ 9 × 100 = 16%.
Another method. As a proportion of part to whole: 16/100 = part/9, so part = 16 × 9 ÷ 100 = 1.44. Both methods always give the same answer.
