20 times tables 2–5 problems with an answer key. Print with your browser; the answers print on a separate page.
How to use this worksheet
Print it, set a time limit if you like, and mark it with the key. Press “New worksheet” for a fresh set of numbers at the same level: every set is different, so it works for repeated practice and for a whole class.
Worked example: 3 × 9
Here is the method for the first problem on this sheet, step by step. The same steps work for every problem at this level.
- This is a times-table fact: 3 × 9 = 27.
- If you are not sure, start from 3 × 10 = 30 and take away 1 lots of 3: 30 − 3 = 27.
What this level practises
Times tables 2–5 is usually taught in grade 2. This sheet has 20 problems; the answers run from 2 to 45, and the problem with the largest answer is 5 × 9 = 45. Work through the sheet without a calculator, then mark it with the key: the aim is accuracy first and speed second.
Tips for multiplication
- Learn the tables in an order that builds on itself: 2, 10 and 5 first, then 4 and 8 by doubling, then 3, 6 and 9.
- Every fact has a twin: 7 × 8 is the same as 8 × 7, so there are far fewer facts to learn than it seems.
- For bigger numbers, split one factor into tens and ones and add the partial products.
- Short daily practice with mixed questions fixes facts in memory better than reciting one table at a time.
Printing
Use your browser’s print command. The menus, buttons and ads are left off the printout, and the answer key starts on a new page so it can be kept back. For a whole class, print one sheet, press “New worksheet” and print again to give each group different numbers.
