- Multiply by 100: 0.375 × 100 = 37.5%
- Check: Work backwards: 37.5% of 24 is 0.375 × 24 = 9.
Another method. As a proportion of part to whole: 9/24 = p/100, so p = 9 × 100 ÷ 24 = 37.5%. Both methods always give the same answer.
In a spreadsheet: =9/24*100. Dividing the wrong way round (whole ÷ part) gives a different answer. The number after “of” is always the whole, so it goes on the bottom.
