How to work it out
- Turn the percentage into a decimal: 3 ÷ 100 = 0.03
- Multiply: 0.03 × 31 = 0.93
- Check: Work backwards: 0.93 ÷ 31 × 100 = 3%.
Another method. As a proportion of part to whole: 3/100 = part/31, so part = 3 × 31 ÷ 100 = 0.93. Both methods always give the same answer.
