Free Division Worksheets
Division facts and short division with remainders. Every worksheet has 20 problems and an answer key; press “New worksheet” for a fresh set.
How these worksheets work
Choose a level below. Each worksheet has new numbers every time you ask for one, so you can print as many different sheets as you need. Answers are worked out by the generator and printed on a separate page.
Start at the first level and move on when a sheet can be finished quickly with few mistakes. Short, regular practice (one sheet a day) builds fluency faster than long sessions, and timing a sheet now and then shows progress clearly.
Levels
Choosing the right level
- Division facts to 10 × 10, usually grade 3. Typical problems: 16 ÷ 8 = 2; 49 ÷ 7 = 7; 6 ÷ 6 = 1.
- Division facts to 12 × 12, usually grades 3 and 4. Typical problems: 90 ÷ 10 = 9; 36 ÷ 4 = 9; 24 ÷ 8 = 3.
- Short division with remainders, usually grade 4. Typical problems: 51 ÷ 7 = 7 r 2; 36 ÷ 2 = 18; 53 ÷ 4 = 13 r 1.
If a child gets more than a few problems wrong on a level, stay there for another sheet or two. If a sheet is finished quickly and almost all correct, move to the next level. Each level page has its own answer key and a button for a fresh set of numbers.
Worked example: 90 ÷ 10
This problem comes from the division facts to 12 × 12 level. The method is the same for every problem on that sheet:
- Ask how many times 10 fits into 90: 10 × 9 = 90.
- Nothing is left over, so 90 ÷ 10 = 9.
- Check by multiplying back: 9 × 10 = 90.
Printing and reuse
Every level prints on plain paper with the answers on a separate page. Because the numbers change each time you press “New worksheet”, you can give a different sheet to each child or repeat a level many times without anyone memorising the answers.
The sample problems above are taken from the same generators as the printable sheets, so they show exactly the kind of numbers each level uses.
Teaching tips
- Division undoes multiplication: to work out 56 ÷ 7, ask which number times 7 makes 56.
- A remainder is what is left when the divisor no longer fits. It must always be smaller than the divisor.
- Check by multiplying the answer by the divisor and adding the remainder; you should get the starting number.
- Secure times tables first: almost every division mistake comes from a multiplication fact that is not yet known.
