How the answer is worked out

A quicker way

Find 1% of 100 first: 100 ÷ 100 = 1. Then count how many of those fit into 50: 50 ÷ 1 = 50.

Because 100 × 1 = 100, multiply both numbers by 1: 50 × 1 = 50, so the answer is 50% with no division needed.

Work backwards: 50% of 100 is 0.5 × 100 = 50. Getting 50 back shows the answer is right.

Rounded to a whole number the percentage is 50, to one decimal place 50.0 and to two decimal places 50.00. Round only at the end: rounding halfway through a calculation can change the last digit.
