How to work it out
- Turn the percentage into a decimal: 18 ÷ 100 = 0.18
- Multiply: 0.18 × 9 = 1.62
- Check: Work backwards: 1.62 ÷ 9 × 100 = 18%.
Another method. As a proportion of part to whole: 18/100 = part/9, so part = 18 × 9 ÷ 100 = 1.62. Both methods always give the same answer.
