How to work it out

  1. Turn the percentage into a decimal: 11 ÷ 100 = 0.11
  2. Multiply: 0.11 × 22 = 2.42
  3. Check: Work backwards: 2.42 ÷ 22 × 100 = 11%.

Another method. As a proportion of part to whole: 11/100 = part/22, so part = 11 × 22 ÷ 100 = 2.42. Both methods always give the same answer.
