How to work it out
- Turn the percentage into a decimal: 13 ÷ 100 = 0.13
- Multiply: 0.13 × 15 = 1.95
- Check: Work backwards: 1.95 ÷ 15 × 100 = 13%.
Another method. As a proportion of part to whole: 13/100 = part/15, so part = 13 × 15 ÷ 100 = 1.95. Both methods always give the same answer.
In a spreadsheet: =13%*15. Forgetting to divide the percentage by 100 makes the answer 100 times too big. Note that x% of y always equals y% of x.
