How to work it out

  1. Turn the percentage into a decimal: 18 ÷ 100 = 0.18
  2. Multiply: 0.18 × 11 = 1.98
  3. Check: Work backwards: 1.98 ÷ 11 × 100 = 18%.

Another method. As a proportion of part to whole: 18/100 = part/11, so part = 18 × 11 ÷ 100 = 1.98. Both methods always give the same answer.
