How to work it out

  1. Turn the percentage into a decimal: 7 ÷ 100 = 0.07
  2. Multiply: 0.07 × 8 = 0.56
  3. Check: Work backwards: 0.56 ÷ 8 × 100 = 7%.

Another method. As a proportion of part to whole: 7/100 = part/8, so part = 7 × 8 ÷ 100 = 0.56. Both methods always give the same answer.
