How to work it out
- Turn the percentage into a decimal: 97 ÷ 100 = 0.97
- Multiply: 0.97 × 1 = 0.97
- Check: Work backwards: 0.97 ÷ 1 × 100 = 97%.
Another method. As a proportion of part to whole: 97/100 = part/1, so part = 97 × 1 ÷ 100 = 0.97. Both methods always give the same answer.
