How to work it out

  1. Turn the percentage into a decimal: 10 ÷ 100 = 0.1
  2. Divide the part by it: 30 ÷ 0.1 = 300
  3. Check: Work forwards: 10% of 300 is 0.1 × 300 = 30.

Another method. As a proportion: 30/whole = 10/100, so whole = 30 × 100 ÷ 10 = 300. Both methods always give the same answer.
