How to work it out
- Turn the percentage into a decimal: 19 ÷ 100 = 0.19
- Multiply: 0.19 × 15 = 2.85
- Check: Work backwards: 2.85 ÷ 15 × 100 = 19%.
Another method. As a proportion of part to whole: 19/100 = part/15, so part = 19 × 15 ÷ 100 = 2.85. Both methods always give the same answer.
