How to work it out

  1. Turn the percentage into a decimal: 26 ÷ 100 = 0.26
  2. Multiply: 0.26 × 24 = 6.24
  3. Check: Work backwards: 6.24 ÷ 24 × 100 = 26%.

Another method. As a proportion of part to whole: 26/100 = part/24, so part = 26 × 24 ÷ 100 = 6.24. Both methods always give the same answer.
