How to work it out
- Turn the percentage into a decimal: 26 ÷ 100 = 0.26
- Multiply: 0.26 × 3 = 0.78
- Check: Work backwards: 0.78 ÷ 3 × 100 = 26%.
Another method. As a proportion of part to whole: 26/100 = part/3, so part = 26 × 3 ÷ 100 = 0.78. Both methods always give the same answer.
