How to work it out
- Turn the percentage into a decimal: 6 ÷ 100 = 0.06
- Multiply: 0.06 × 6 = 0.36
- Check: Work backwards: 0.36 ÷ 6 × 100 = 6%.
Another method. As a proportion of part to whole: 6/100 = part/6, so part = 6 × 6 ÷ 100 = 0.36. Both methods always give the same answer.
