How to work it out
- Turn the percentage into a decimal: 24 ÷ 100 = 0.24
- Multiply: 0.24 × 12 = 2.88
- Check: Work backwards: 2.88 ÷ 12 × 100 = 24%.
Another method. As a proportion of part to whole: 24/100 = part/12, so part = 24 × 12 ÷ 100 = 2.88. Both methods always give the same answer.
