How to work it out
- Turn the percentage into a decimal: 88 ÷ 100 = 0.88
- Multiply: 0.88 × 10 = 8.8
- Check: Work backwards: 8.8 ÷ 10 × 100 = 88%.
Another method. As a proportion of part to whole: 88/100 = part/10, so part = 88 × 10 ÷ 100 = 8.8. Both methods always give the same answer.
