How to work it out

  1. Turn the percentage into a decimal: 37 ÷ 100 = 0.37
  2. Multiply: 0.37 × 10 = 3.7
  3. Check: Work backwards: 3.7 ÷ 10 × 100 = 37%.

Another method. As a proportion of part to whole: 37/100 = part/10, so part = 37 × 10 ÷ 100 = 3.7. Both methods always give the same answer.
