How to work it out
- Turn the percentage into a decimal: 99 ÷ 100 = 0.99
- Multiply: 0.99 × 30 = 29.7
- Check: Work backwards: 29.7 ÷ 30 × 100 = 99%.
Another method. As a proportion of part to whole: 99/100 = part/30, so part = 99 × 30 ÷ 100 = 29.7. Both methods always give the same answer.
