Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 5: 2, 4, 6, 8, 0.
- Every answer is even, because 102 is even.
- Split it into tens and ones: 102 × k = 100 × k + 2 × k.
- Each answer is 102 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 102.
Building it from tables you already know
Every answer in the 102 times table is double the answer in the 51 times table: 51 × 6 = 306, so 102 × 6 = 612. To multiply 102 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 102 away: 1,020 − 102 = 918. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 102: 1,020 + 102 = 1,122. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 102 → 204 → 408.
Every multiple of 102 is at least 102, so there are none below 100 and 9 below 1,000. A number is in the 102 times table exactly when it divides by 102 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 102 is even, every answer in its table is even, which is a quick way to catch a wrong answer. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 102 × 10 = 1,020, and 102 × 100 = 10,200. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 1,020 is 510.
Using the 102 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 102 × 7 = 714, you know 714 ÷ 102 = 7 and 714 ÷ 7 = 102. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 102 pencils. How many pencils are in 8 boxes?
Answer
8 × 102 = 816 pencils. - Tickets cost $102 each. How much do 7 tickets cost?
Answer
7 × $102 = $714. - 918 chairs are set out in rows of 102. How many rows are there?
Answer
918 ÷ 102 = 9 rows. - A plant grows 102 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 9 weeks?
Answer
9 × 102 = 918 millimetres.
Questions
What is 102 × 12?
1,224.
What is half of 102 × 8?
102 × 8 = 816, and half of that is 408, which is 102 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 102 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 102 contain nothing.
What is 102 × 7 and 102 × 8?
102 × 7 = 714 and 102 × 8 = 816. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 1,530 in the 102 times table?
Yes: 1,530 ÷ 102 = 15 with no remainder. 1,531 is not, because dividing it by 102 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 102 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
