Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 10: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0.
- Split it into tens and ones: 201 × k = 200 × k + 1 × k.
- Each answer is 201 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 201.
Building it from tables you already know
To multiply 201 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 201 away: 2,010 − 201 = 1,809. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 201: 2,010 + 201 = 2,211. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 201 → 402 → 804.
Every multiple of 201 is at least 201, so there are none below 100 and 4 below 1,000. A number is in the 201 times table exactly when it divides by 201 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 201 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 201 × 1 = 201 is odd, 201 × 2 = 402 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 201 × 10 = 2,010, and 201 × 100 = 20,100. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 2,010 is 1,005.
Using the 201 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 201 × 7 = 1,407, you know 1,407 ÷ 201 = 7 and 1,407 ÷ 7 = 201. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 201 pencils. How many pencils are in 7 boxes?
Answer
7 × 201 = 1,407 pencils. - Tickets cost $201 each. How much do 7 tickets cost?
Answer
7 × $201 = $1,407. - 1,809 chairs are set out in rows of 201. How many rows are there?
Answer
1,809 ÷ 201 = 9 rows. - A plant grows 201 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 7 weeks?
Answer
7 × 201 = 1,407 millimetres.
Questions
What is 201 × 12?
2,412.
What is half of 201 × 8?
201 × 8 = 1,608, and half of that is 804, which is 201 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 201 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 201 contain nothing.
What is 201 × 7 and 201 × 8?
201 × 7 = 1,407 and 201 × 8 = 1,608. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 3,015 in the 201 times table?
Yes: 3,015 ÷ 201 = 15 with no remainder. 3,016 is not, because dividing it by 201 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 201 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
