Patterns that help you remember it

  • The last digits repeat in a cycle of 10: 3, 6, 9, 2, 5, 8, 1, 4, 7, 0.
  • Split it into tens and ones: 443 × k = 440 × k + 3 × k.
  • Each answer is 443 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 443.

Building it from tables you already know

To multiply 443 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 443 away: 4,430 − 443 = 3,987. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 443: 4,430 + 443 = 4,873. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 443 → 886 → 1,772.

Every multiple of 443 is at least 443, so there are none below 100 and 2 below 1,000. A number is in the 443 times table exactly when it divides by 443 with no remainder.

Odd, even and the last digit

Because 443 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 443 × 1 = 443 is odd, 443 × 2 = 886 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 443 × 10 = 4,430, and 443 × 100 = 44,300. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 4,430 is 2,215.

Using the 443 times table to divide

Every fact also works backwards: because 443 × 7 = 3,101, you know 3,101 ÷ 443 = 7 and 3,101 ÷ 7 = 443. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems

Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:

  1. A box holds 443 pencils. How many pencils are in 7 boxes?
    Answer7 × 443 = 3,101 pencils.
  2. Tickets cost $443 each. How much do 11 tickets cost?
    Answer11 × $443 = $4,873.
  3. 2,658 chairs are set out in rows of 443. How many rows are there?
    Answer2,658 ÷ 443 = 6 rows.
  4. A plant grows 443 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 6 weeks?

Questions

What is 443 × 12?

5,316.

What is half of 443 × 8?

443 × 8 = 3,544, and half of that is 1,772, which is 443 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.

What is 443 times 0?

0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 443 contain nothing.

What is 443 × 7 and 443 × 8?

443 × 7 = 3,101 and 443 × 8 = 3,544. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.

Is 6,645 in the 443 times table?

Yes: 6,645 ÷ 443 = 15 with no remainder. 6,646 is not, because dividing it by 443 leaves a remainder of 1.

How do I learn the 443 times table quickly?

Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
