Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 10: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0.
- Split it into tens and ones: 521 × k = 520 × k + 1 × k.
- Each answer is 521 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 521.
Building it from tables you already know
To multiply 521 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 521 away: 5,210 − 521 = 4,689. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 521: 5,210 + 521 = 5,731. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 521 → 1,042 → 2,084.
Every multiple of 521 is at least 521, so there are none below 100 and 1 below 1,000. A number is in the 521 times table exactly when it divides by 521 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 521 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 521 × 1 = 521 is odd, 521 × 2 = 1,042 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 521 × 10 = 5,210, and 521 × 100 = 52,100. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 5,210 is 2,605.
Using the 521 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 521 × 7 = 3,647, you know 3,647 ÷ 521 = 7 and 3,647 ÷ 7 = 521. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 521 pencils. How many pencils are in 3 boxes?
Answer
3 × 521 = 1,563 pencils. - Tickets cost $521 each. How much do 6 tickets cost?
Answer
6 × $521 = $3,126. - 3,126 chairs are set out in rows of 521. How many rows are there?
Answer
3,126 ÷ 521 = 6 rows. - A plant grows 521 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 8 weeks?
Answer
8 × 521 = 4,168 millimetres.
Questions
What is 521 × 12?
6,252.
What is half of 521 × 8?
521 × 8 = 4,168, and half of that is 2,084, which is 521 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 521 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 521 contain nothing.
What is 521 × 7 and 521 × 8?
521 × 7 = 3,647 and 521 × 8 = 4,168. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 7,815 in the 521 times table?
Yes: 7,815 ÷ 521 = 15 with no remainder. 7,816 is not, because dividing it by 521 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 521 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
