Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 2: 5, 0.
- Every answer ends in 0 or 5.
- Split it into tens and ones: 555 × k = 550 × k + 5 × k.
- Each answer is 555 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 555.
Building it from tables you already know
To multiply 555 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 555 away: 5,550 − 555 = 4,995. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 555: 5,550 + 555 = 6,105. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 555 → 1,110 → 2,220.
Every multiple of 555 is at least 555, so there are none below 100 and 1 below 1,000. A number is in the 555 times table exactly when it divides by 555 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 555 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 555 × 1 = 555 is odd, 555 × 2 = 1,110 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 555 × 10 = 5,550, and 555 × 100 = 55,500. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 5,550 is 2,775.
Using the 555 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 555 × 7 = 3,885, you know 3,885 ÷ 555 = 7 and 3,885 ÷ 7 = 555. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 555 pencils. How many pencils are in 5 boxes?
Answer
5 × 555 = 2,775 pencils. - Tickets cost $555 each. How much do 11 tickets cost?
Answer
11 × $555 = $6,105. - 1,110 chairs are set out in rows of 555. How many rows are there?
Answer
1,110 ÷ 555 = 2 rows. - A plant grows 555 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 10 weeks?
Answer
10 × 555 = 5,550 millimetres.
Questions
What is 555 × 12?
6,660.
What is half of 555 × 8?
555 × 8 = 4,440, and half of that is 2,220, which is 555 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 555 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 555 contain nothing.
What is 555 × 7 and 555 × 8?
555 × 7 = 3,885 and 555 × 8 = 4,440. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 8,325 in the 555 times table?
Yes: 8,325 ÷ 555 = 15 with no remainder. 8,326 is not, because dividing it by 555 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 555 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
