Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 10: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0.
- Split it into tens and ones: 561 × k = 560 × k + 1 × k.
- Each answer is 561 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 561.
Building it from tables you already know
To multiply 561 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 561 away: 5,610 − 561 = 5,049. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 561: 5,610 + 561 = 6,171. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 561 → 1,122 → 2,244.
Every multiple of 561 is at least 561, so there are none below 100 and 1 below 1,000. A number is in the 561 times table exactly when it divides by 561 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 561 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 561 × 1 = 561 is odd, 561 × 2 = 1,122 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 561 × 10 = 5,610, and 561 × 100 = 56,100. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 5,610 is 2,805.
Using the 561 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 561 × 7 = 3,927, you know 3,927 ÷ 561 = 7 and 3,927 ÷ 7 = 561. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 561 pencils. How many pencils are in 5 boxes?
Answer
5 × 561 = 2,805 pencils. - Tickets cost $561 each. How much do 10 tickets cost?
Answer
10 × $561 = $5,610. - 3,366 chairs are set out in rows of 561. How many rows are there?
Answer
3,366 ÷ 561 = 6 rows. - A plant grows 561 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 8 weeks?
Answer
8 × 561 = 4,488 millimetres.
Questions
What is 561 × 12?
6,732.
What is half of 561 × 8?
561 × 8 = 4,488, and half of that is 2,244, which is 561 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 561 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 561 contain nothing.
What is 561 × 7 and 561 × 8?
561 × 7 = 3,927 and 561 × 8 = 4,488. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 8,415 in the 561 times table?
Yes: 8,415 ÷ 561 = 15 with no remainder. 8,416 is not, because dividing it by 561 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 561 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
