Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 10: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0.
- Split it into tens and ones: 601 × k = 600 × k + 1 × k.
- Each answer is 601 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 601.
Building it from tables you already know
To multiply 601 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 601 away: 6,010 − 601 = 5,409. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 601: 6,010 + 601 = 6,611. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 601 → 1,202 → 2,404.
Every multiple of 601 is at least 601, so there are none below 100 and 1 below 1,000. A number is in the 601 times table exactly when it divides by 601 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 601 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 601 × 1 = 601 is odd, 601 × 2 = 1,202 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 601 × 10 = 6,010, and 601 × 100 = 60,100. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 6,010 is 3,005.
Using the 601 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 601 × 7 = 4,207, you know 4,207 ÷ 601 = 7 and 4,207 ÷ 7 = 601. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 601 pencils. How many pencils are in 9 boxes?
Answer
9 × 601 = 5,409 pencils. - Tickets cost $601 each. How much do 10 tickets cost?
Answer
10 × $601 = $6,010. - 5,409 chairs are set out in rows of 601. How many rows are there?
Answer
5,409 ÷ 601 = 9 rows. - A plant grows 601 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 6 weeks?
Answer
6 × 601 = 3,606 millimetres.
Questions
What is 601 × 12?
7,212.
What is half of 601 × 8?
601 × 8 = 4,808, and half of that is 2,404, which is 601 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 601 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 601 contain nothing.
What is 601 × 7 and 601 × 8?
601 × 7 = 4,207 and 601 × 8 = 4,808. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 9,015 in the 601 times table?
Yes: 9,015 ÷ 601 = 15 with no remainder. 9,016 is not, because dividing it by 601 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 601 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
