Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 2: 5, 0.
- Every answer ends in 0 or 5.
- Split it into tens and ones: 815 × k = 810 × k + 5 × k.
- Each answer is 815 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 815.
Building it from tables you already know
To multiply 815 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 815 away: 8,150 − 815 = 7,335. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 815: 8,150 + 815 = 8,965. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 815 → 1,630 → 3,260.
Every multiple of 815 is at least 815, so there are none below 100 and 1 below 1,000. A number is in the 815 times table exactly when it divides by 815 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 815 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 815 × 1 = 815 is odd, 815 × 2 = 1,630 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 815 × 10 = 8,150, and 815 × 100 = 81,500. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 8,150 is 4,075.
Using the 815 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 815 × 7 = 5,705, you know 5,705 ÷ 815 = 7 and 5,705 ÷ 7 = 815. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 815 pencils. How many pencils are in 7 boxes?
Answer
7 × 815 = 5,705 pencils. - Tickets cost $815 each. How much do 6 tickets cost?
Answer
6 × $815 = $4,890. - 1,630 chairs are set out in rows of 815. How many rows are there?
Answer
1,630 ÷ 815 = 2 rows. - A plant grows 815 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 8 weeks?
Answer
8 × 815 = 6,520 millimetres.
Questions
What is 815 × 12?
9,780.
What is half of 815 × 8?
815 × 8 = 6,520, and half of that is 3,260, which is 815 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 815 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 815 contain nothing.
What is 815 × 7 and 815 × 8?
815 × 7 = 5,705 and 815 × 8 = 6,520. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 12,225 in the 815 times table?
Yes: 12,225 ÷ 815 = 15 with no remainder. 12,226 is not, because dividing it by 815 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 815 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
