Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 2: 5, 0.
- Every answer ends in 0 or 5.
- Split it into tens and ones: 835 × k = 830 × k + 5 × k.
- Each answer is 835 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 835.
Building it from tables you already know
To multiply 835 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 835 away: 8,350 − 835 = 7,515. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 835: 8,350 + 835 = 9,185. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 835 → 1,670 → 3,340.
Every multiple of 835 is at least 835, so there are none below 100 and 1 below 1,000. A number is in the 835 times table exactly when it divides by 835 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 835 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 835 × 1 = 835 is odd, 835 × 2 = 1,670 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 835 × 10 = 8,350, and 835 × 100 = 83,500. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 8,350 is 4,175.
Using the 835 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 835 × 7 = 5,845, you know 5,845 ÷ 835 = 7 and 5,845 ÷ 7 = 835. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 835 pencils. How many pencils are in 7 boxes?
Answer
7 × 835 = 5,845 pencils. - Tickets cost $835 each. How much do 8 tickets cost?
Answer
8 × $835 = $6,680. - 4,175 chairs are set out in rows of 835. How many rows are there?
Answer
4,175 ÷ 835 = 5 rows. - A plant grows 835 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 10 weeks?
Answer
10 × 835 = 8,350 millimetres.
Questions
What is 835 × 12?
10,020.
What is half of 835 × 8?
835 × 8 = 6,680, and half of that is 3,340, which is 835 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 835 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 835 contain nothing.
What is 835 × 7 and 835 × 8?
835 × 7 = 5,845 and 835 × 8 = 6,680. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 12,525 in the 835 times table?
Yes: 12,525 ÷ 835 = 15 with no remainder. 12,526 is not, because dividing it by 835 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 835 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
