Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 10: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0.
- Split it into tens and ones: 901 × k = 900 × k + 1 × k.
- Each answer is 901 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 901.
Building it from tables you already know
To multiply 901 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 901 away: 9,010 − 901 = 8,109. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 901: 9,010 + 901 = 9,911. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 901 → 1,802 → 3,604.
Every multiple of 901 is at least 901, so there are none below 100 and 1 below 1,000. A number is in the 901 times table exactly when it divides by 901 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 901 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 901 × 1 = 901 is odd, 901 × 2 = 1,802 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 901 × 10 = 9,010, and 901 × 100 = 90,100. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 9,010 is 4,505.
Using the 901 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 901 × 7 = 6,307, you know 6,307 ÷ 901 = 7 and 6,307 ÷ 7 = 901. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 901 pencils. How many pencils are in 3 boxes?
Answer
3 × 901 = 2,703 pencils. - Tickets cost $901 each. How much do 6 tickets cost?
Answer
6 × $901 = $5,406. - 3,604 chairs are set out in rows of 901. How many rows are there?
Answer
3,604 ÷ 901 = 4 rows. - A plant grows 901 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 10 weeks?
Answer
10 × 901 = 9,010 millimetres.
Questions
What is 901 × 12?
10,812.
What is half of 901 × 8?
901 × 8 = 7,208, and half of that is 3,604, which is 901 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 901 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 901 contain nothing.
What is 901 × 7 and 901 × 8?
901 × 7 = 6,307 and 901 × 8 = 7,208. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 13,515 in the 901 times table?
Yes: 13,515 ÷ 901 = 15 with no remainder. 13,516 is not, because dividing it by 901 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 901 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
