Patterns that help you remember it

  • The last digits repeat in a cycle of 2: 5, 0.
  • Every answer ends in 0 or 5.
  • Split it into tens and ones: 1155 × k = 1150 × k + 5 × k.
  • Each answer is 1155 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 1155.

Building it from tables you already know

To multiply 1155 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 1155 away: 11,550 − 1155 = 10,395. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 1155: 11,550 + 1155 = 12,705. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 1155 → 2,310 → 4,620.

Every multiple of 1155 is at least 1155, so there are none below 100 and 0 below 1,000. A number is in the 1155 times table exactly when it divides by 1155 with no remainder.

Odd, even and the last digit

Because 1155 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 1155 × 1 = 1155 is odd, 1155 × 2 = 2,310 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 1155 × 10 = 11,550, and 1155 × 100 = 115,500. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 11,550 is 5,775.

Using the 1155 times table to divide

Every fact also works backwards: because 1155 × 7 = 8,085, you know 8,085 ÷ 1155 = 7 and 8,085 ÷ 7 = 1155. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Questions

What is 1155 × 12?

13,860.

What is half of 1155 × 8?

1155 × 8 = 9,240, and half of that is 4,620, which is 1155 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.

What is 1155 times 0?

0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 1155 contain nothing.

What is 1155 × 7 and 1155 × 8?

1155 × 7 = 8,085 and 1155 × 8 = 9,240. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.

Is 17,325 in the 1155 times table?

Yes: 17,325 ÷ 1155 = 15 with no remainder. 17,326 is not, because dividing it by 1155 leaves a remainder of 1.

How do I learn the 1155 times table quickly?

Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
