Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 10: 7, 4, 1, 8, 5, 2, 9, 6, 3, 0.
- Split it into tens and ones: 127 × k = 120 × k + 7 × k.
- Each answer is 127 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 127.
Building it from tables you already know
To multiply 127 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 127 away: 1,270 − 127 = 1,143. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 127: 1,270 + 127 = 1,397. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 127 → 254 → 508.
Every multiple of 127 is at least 127, so there are none below 100 and 7 below 1,000. A number is in the 127 times table exactly when it divides by 127 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 127 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 127 × 1 = 127 is odd, 127 × 2 = 254 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 127 × 10 = 1,270, and 127 × 100 = 12,700. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 1,270 is 635.
Using the 127 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 127 × 7 = 889, you know 889 ÷ 127 = 7 and 889 ÷ 7 = 127. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 127 pencils. How many pencils are in 3 boxes?
Answer
3 × 127 = 381 pencils. - Tickets cost $127 each. How much do 12 tickets cost?
Answer
12 × $127 = $1,524. - 635 chairs are set out in rows of 127. How many rows are there?
Answer
635 ÷ 127 = 5 rows. - A plant grows 127 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 7 weeks?
Answer
7 × 127 = 889 millimetres.
Questions
What is 127 × 12?
1,524.
What is half of 127 × 8?
127 × 8 = 1,016, and half of that is 508, which is 127 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 127 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 127 contain nothing.
What is 127 × 7 and 127 × 8?
127 × 7 = 889 and 127 × 8 = 1,016. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 1,905 in the 127 times table?
Yes: 1,905 ÷ 127 = 15 with no remainder. 1,906 is not, because dividing it by 127 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 127 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
