Patterns that help you remember it

  • The last digits repeat in a cycle of 2: 5, 0.
  • Every answer ends in 0 or 5.
  • Split it into tens and ones: 1275 × k = 1270 × k + 5 × k.
  • Each answer is 1275 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 1275.

Building it from tables you already know

To multiply 1275 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 1275 away: 12,750 − 1275 = 11,475. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 1275: 12,750 + 1275 = 14,025. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 1275 → 2,550 → 5,100.

Every multiple of 1275 is at least 1275, so there are none below 100 and 0 below 1,000. A number is in the 1275 times table exactly when it divides by 1275 with no remainder.

Odd, even and the last digit

Because 1275 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 1275 × 1 = 1275 is odd, 1275 × 2 = 2,550 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 1275 × 10 = 12,750, and 1275 × 100 = 127,500. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 12,750 is 6,375.

Using the 1275 times table to divide

Every fact also works backwards: because 1275 × 7 = 8,925, you know 8,925 ÷ 1275 = 7 and 8,925 ÷ 7 = 1275. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems

Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:

  1. A box holds 1275 pencils. How many pencils are in 5 boxes?
    Answer5 × 1275 = 6,375 pencils.
  2. Tickets cost $1275 each. How much do 9 tickets cost?
    Answer9 × $1275 = $11,475.

Questions

What is 1275 × 12?

15,300.

What is half of 1275 × 8?

1275 × 8 = 10,200, and half of that is 5,100, which is 1275 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.

What is 1275 times 0?

0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 1275 contain nothing.

What is 1275 × 7 and 1275 × 8?

1275 × 7 = 8,925 and 1275 × 8 = 10,200. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.

Is 19,125 in the 1275 times table?

Yes: 19,125 ÷ 1275 = 15 with no remainder. 19,126 is not, because dividing it by 1275 leaves a remainder of 1.

How do I learn the 1275 times table quickly?

Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
