Patterns that help you remember it

  • The last digits repeat in a cycle of 2: 5, 0.
  • Every answer ends in 0 or 5.
  • Split it into tens and ones: 1455 × k = 1450 × k + 5 × k.
  • Each answer is 1455 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 1455.

Building it from tables you already know

To multiply 1455 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 1455 away: 14,550 − 1455 = 13,095. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 1455: 14,550 + 1455 = 16,005. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 1455 → 2,910 → 5,820.

Every multiple of 1455 is at least 1455, so there are none below 100 and 0 below 1,000. A number is in the 1455 times table exactly when it divides by 1455 with no remainder.

Odd, even and the last digit

Because 1455 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 1455 × 1 = 1455 is odd, 1455 × 2 = 2,910 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 1455 × 10 = 14,550, and 1455 × 100 = 145,500. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 14,550 is 7,275.

Using the 1455 times table to divide

Every fact also works backwards: because 1455 × 7 = 10,185, you know 10,185 ÷ 1455 = 7 and 10,185 ÷ 7 = 1455. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Questions

What is 1455 × 12?

17,460.

What is half of 1455 × 8?

1455 × 8 = 11,640, and half of that is 5,820, which is 1455 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
