Patterns that help you remember it

  • The last digits repeat in a cycle of 5: 8, 6, 4, 2, 0.
  • Every answer is even, because 1458 is even.
  • The digits of every answer add up to a multiple of 9.
  • Split it into tens and ones: 1458 × k = 1450 × k + 8 × k.
  • Each answer is 1458 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 1458.

Building it from tables you already know

Every answer in the 1458 times table is double the answer in the 729 times table: 729 × 6 = 4,374, so 1458 × 6 = 8,748. To multiply 1458 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 1458 away: 14,580 − 1458 = 13,122. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 1458: 14,580 + 1458 = 16,038. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 1458 → 2,916 → 5,832.

Every multiple of 1458 is at least 1458, so there are none below 100 and 0 below 1,000. A number is in the 1458 times table exactly when it divides by 1458 with no remainder.

Odd, even and the last digit

Because 1458 is even, every answer in its table is even, which is a quick way to catch a wrong answer. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 1458 × 10 = 14,580, and 1458 × 100 = 145,800. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 14,580 is 7,290.

Using the 1458 times table to divide

Every fact also works backwards: because 1458 × 7 = 10,206, you know 10,206 ÷ 1458 = 7 and 10,206 ÷ 7 = 1458. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Questions

What is 1458 × 12?

17,496.

What is half of 1458 × 8?

1458 × 8 = 11,664, and half of that is 5,832, which is 1458 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.

What is 1458 times 0?

0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 1458 contain nothing.

What is 1458 × 7 and 1458 × 8?

1458 × 7 = 10,206 and 1458 × 8 = 11,664. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.

Is 21,870 in the 1458 times table?

Yes: 21,870 ÷ 1458 = 15 with no remainder. 21,871 is not, because dividing it by 1458 leaves a remainder of 1.

How do I learn the 1458 times table quickly?

Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
