Patterns that help you remember it

  • The last digits repeat in a cycle of 2: 5, 0.
  • The digits of every answer add up to a multiple of 9.
  • Every answer ends in 0 or 5.
  • Split it into tens and ones: 1485 × k = 1480 × k + 5 × k.
  • Each answer is 1485 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 1485.

Building it from tables you already know

To multiply 1485 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 1485 away: 14,850 − 1485 = 13,365. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 1485: 14,850 + 1485 = 16,335. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 1485 → 2,970 → 5,940.

Every multiple of 1485 is at least 1485, so there are none below 100 and 0 below 1,000. A number is in the 1485 times table exactly when it divides by 1485 with no remainder.

Odd, even and the last digit

Because 1485 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 1485 × 1 = 1485 is odd, 1485 × 2 = 2,970 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 1485 × 10 = 14,850, and 1485 × 100 = 148,500. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 14,850 is 7,425.

Using the 1485 times table to divide

Every fact also works backwards: because 1485 × 7 = 10,395, you know 10,395 ÷ 1485 = 7 and 10,395 ÷ 7 = 1485. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems

Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:

  1. A box holds 1485 pencils. How many pencils are in 6 boxes?
    Answer6 × 1485 = 8,910 pencils.

Questions

What is 1485 × 12?

17,820.

What is half of 1485 × 8?

1485 × 8 = 11,880, and half of that is 5,940, which is 1485 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.

What is 1485 times 0?

0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 1485 contain nothing.

What is 1485 × 7 and 1485 × 8?

1485 × 7 = 10,395 and 1485 × 8 = 11,880. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.

Is 22,275 in the 1485 times table?

Yes: 22,275 ÷ 1485 = 15 with no remainder. 22,276 is not, because dividing it by 1485 leaves a remainder of 1.

How do I learn the 1485 times table quickly?

Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
