Patterns that help you remember it

  • The last digits repeat in a cycle of 10: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0.
  • Split it into tens and ones: 1911 × k = 1910 × k + 1 × k.
  • Each answer is 1911 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 1911.

Building it from tables you already know

To multiply 1911 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 1911 away: 19,110 − 1911 = 17,199. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 1911: 19,110 + 1911 = 21,021. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 1911 → 3,822 → 7,644.

Every multiple of 1911 is at least 1911, so there are none below 100 and 0 below 1,000. A number is in the 1911 times table exactly when it divides by 1911 with no remainder.

Odd, even and the last digit

Because 1911 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 1911 × 1 = 1911 is odd, 1911 × 2 = 3,822 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 1911 × 10 = 19,110, and 1911 × 100 = 191,100. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 19,110 is 9,555.

Using the 1911 times table to divide

Every fact also works backwards: because 1911 × 7 = 13,377, you know 13,377 ÷ 1911 = 7 and 13,377 ÷ 7 = 1911. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems

Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:

  1. A box holds 1911 pencils. How many pencils are in 4 boxes?
    Answer4 × 1911 = 7,644 pencils.
  2. Tickets cost $1911 each. How much do 4 tickets cost?
    Answer4 × $1911 = $7,644.
  3. 9,555 chairs are set out in rows of 1911. How many rows are there?
    Answer9,555 ÷ 1911 = 5 rows.
  4. A plant grows 1911 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 8 weeks?
    Answer8 × 1911 = 15,288 millimetres.

Questions

What is 1911 × 12?

22,932.

What is half of 1911 × 8?

1911 × 8 = 15,288, and half of that is 7,644, which is 1911 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.

What is 1911 times 0?

0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 1911 contain nothing.

What is 1911 × 7 and 1911 × 8?

1911 × 7 = 13,377 and 1911 × 8 = 15,288. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.

Is 28,665 in the 1911 times table?

Yes: 28,665 ÷ 1911 = 15 with no remainder. 28,666 is not, because dividing it by 1911 leaves a remainder of 1.

How do I learn the 1911 times table quickly?

Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
