Patterns that help you remember it

  • The last digits repeat in a cycle of 2: 5, 0.
  • Every answer ends in 0 or 5.
  • Split it into tens and ones: 1915 × k = 1910 × k + 5 × k.
  • Each answer is 1915 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 1915.

Building it from tables you already know

To multiply 1915 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 1915 away: 19,150 − 1915 = 17,235. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 1915: 19,150 + 1915 = 21,065. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 1915 → 3,830 → 7,660.

Every multiple of 1915 is at least 1915, so there are none below 100 and 0 below 1,000. A number is in the 1915 times table exactly when it divides by 1915 with no remainder.

Odd, even and the last digit

Because 1915 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 1915 × 1 = 1915 is odd, 1915 × 2 = 3,830 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 1915 × 10 = 19,150, and 1915 × 100 = 191,500. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 19,150 is 9,575.

Using the 1915 times table to divide

Every fact also works backwards: because 1915 × 7 = 13,405, you know 13,405 ÷ 1915 = 7 and 13,405 ÷ 7 = 1915. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems

Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:

  1. A box holds 1915 pencils. How many pencils are in 4 boxes?
    Answer4 × 1915 = 7,660 pencils.

Questions

What is 1915 × 12?

22,980.

What is half of 1915 × 8?

1915 × 8 = 15,320, and half of that is 7,660, which is 1915 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.

What is 1915 times 0?

0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 1915 contain nothing.

What is 1915 × 7 and 1915 × 8?

1915 × 7 = 13,405 and 1915 × 8 = 15,320. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.

Is 28,725 in the 1915 times table?

Yes: 28,725 ÷ 1915 = 15 with no remainder. 28,726 is not, because dividing it by 1915 leaves a remainder of 1.

How do I learn the 1915 times table quickly?

Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
