Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 10: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0.
- Split it into tens and ones: 301 × k = 300 × k + 1 × k.
- Each answer is 301 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 301.
Building it from tables you already know
To multiply 301 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 301 away: 3,010 − 301 = 2,709. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 301: 3,010 + 301 = 3,311. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 301 → 602 → 1,204.
Every multiple of 301 is at least 301, so there are none below 100 and 3 below 1,000. A number is in the 301 times table exactly when it divides by 301 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 301 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 301 × 1 = 301 is odd, 301 × 2 = 602 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 301 × 10 = 3,010, and 301 × 100 = 30,100. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 3,010 is 1,505.
Using the 301 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 301 × 7 = 2,107, you know 2,107 ÷ 301 = 7 and 2,107 ÷ 7 = 301. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 301 pencils. How many pencils are in 6 boxes?
Answer
6 × 301 = 1,806 pencils. - Tickets cost $301 each. How much do 11 tickets cost?
Answer
11 × $301 = $3,311. - 2,107 chairs are set out in rows of 301. How many rows are there?
Answer
2,107 ÷ 301 = 7 rows. - A plant grows 301 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 11 weeks?
Answer
11 × 301 = 3,311 millimetres.
Questions
What is 301 × 12?
3,612.
What is half of 301 × 8?
301 × 8 = 2,408, and half of that is 1,204, which is 301 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 301 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 301 contain nothing.
What is 301 × 7 and 301 × 8?
301 × 7 = 2,107 and 301 × 8 = 2,408. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 4,515 in the 301 times table?
Yes: 4,515 ÷ 301 = 15 with no remainder. 4,516 is not, because dividing it by 301 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 301 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
