Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 2: 5, 0.
- Every answer ends in 0 or 5.
- Split it into tens and ones: 395 × k = 390 × k + 5 × k.
- Each answer is 395 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 395.
Building it from tables you already know
To multiply 395 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 395 away: 3,950 − 395 = 3,555. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 395: 3,950 + 395 = 4,345. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 395 → 790 → 1,580.
Every multiple of 395 is at least 395, so there are none below 100 and 2 below 1,000. A number is in the 395 times table exactly when it divides by 395 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 395 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 395 × 1 = 395 is odd, 395 × 2 = 790 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 395 × 10 = 3,950, and 395 × 100 = 39,500. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 3,950 is 1,975.
Using the 395 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 395 × 7 = 2,765, you know 2,765 ÷ 395 = 7 and 2,765 ÷ 7 = 395. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 395 pencils. How many pencils are in 4 boxes?
Answer
4 × 395 = 1,580 pencils. - Tickets cost $395 each. How much do 11 tickets cost?
Answer
11 × $395 = $4,345. - 790 chairs are set out in rows of 395. How many rows are there?
Answer
790 ÷ 395 = 2 rows. - A plant grows 395 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 6 weeks?
Answer
6 × 395 = 2,370 millimetres.
Questions
What is 395 × 12?
4,740.
What is half of 395 × 8?
395 × 8 = 3,160, and half of that is 1,580, which is 395 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 395 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 395 contain nothing.
What is 395 × 7 and 395 × 8?
395 × 7 = 2,765 and 395 × 8 = 3,160. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 5,925 in the 395 times table?
Yes: 5,925 ÷ 395 = 15 with no remainder. 5,926 is not, because dividing it by 395 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 395 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
