Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 10: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0.
- Split it into tens and ones: 451 × k = 450 × k + 1 × k.
- Each answer is 451 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 451.
Building it from tables you already know
To multiply 451 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 451 away: 4,510 − 451 = 4,059. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 451: 4,510 + 451 = 4,961. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 451 → 902 → 1,804.
Every multiple of 451 is at least 451, so there are none below 100 and 2 below 1,000. A number is in the 451 times table exactly when it divides by 451 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 451 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 451 × 1 = 451 is odd, 451 × 2 = 902 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 451 × 10 = 4,510, and 451 × 100 = 45,100. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 4,510 is 2,255.
Using the 451 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 451 × 7 = 3,157, you know 3,157 ÷ 451 = 7 and 3,157 ÷ 7 = 451. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 451 pencils. How many pencils are in 6 boxes?
Answer
6 × 451 = 2,706 pencils. - Tickets cost $451 each. How much do 4 tickets cost?
Answer
4 × $451 = $1,804. - 902 chairs are set out in rows of 451. How many rows are there?
Answer
902 ÷ 451 = 2 rows. - A plant grows 451 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 8 weeks?
Answer
8 × 451 = 3,608 millimetres.
Questions
What is 451 × 12?
5,412.
What is half of 451 × 8?
451 × 8 = 3,608, and half of that is 1,804, which is 451 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 451 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 451 contain nothing.
What is 451 × 7 and 451 × 8?
451 × 7 = 3,157 and 451 × 8 = 3,608. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 6,765 in the 451 times table?
Yes: 6,765 ÷ 451 = 15 with no remainder. 6,766 is not, because dividing it by 451 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 451 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
