Patterns that help you remember it

  • The last digits repeat in a cycle of 2: 5, 0.
  • The digits of every answer add up to a multiple of 9.
  • Every answer ends in 0 or 5.
  • Split it into tens and ones: 675 × k = 670 × k + 5 × k.
  • Each answer is 675 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 675.

Building it from tables you already know

To multiply 675 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 675 away: 6,750 − 675 = 6,075. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 675: 6,750 + 675 = 7,425. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 675 → 1,350 → 2,700.

Every multiple of 675 is at least 675, so there are none below 100 and 1 below 1,000. A number is in the 675 times table exactly when it divides by 675 with no remainder.

Odd, even and the last digit

Because 675 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 675 × 1 = 675 is odd, 675 × 2 = 1,350 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 675 × 10 = 6,750, and 675 × 100 = 67,500. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 6,750 is 3,375.

Using the 675 times table to divide

Every fact also works backwards: because 675 × 7 = 4,725, you know 4,725 ÷ 675 = 7 and 4,725 ÷ 7 = 675. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems

Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:

  1. A box holds 675 pencils. How many pencils are in 5 boxes?
    Answer5 × 675 = 3,375 pencils.

Questions

What is 675 × 12?

8,100.

What is half of 675 × 8?

675 × 8 = 5,400, and half of that is 2,700, which is 675 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.

What is 675 times 0?

0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 675 contain nothing.

What is 675 × 7 and 675 × 8?

675 × 7 = 4,725 and 675 × 8 = 5,400. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.

Is 10,125 in the 675 times table?

Yes: 10,125 ÷ 675 = 15 with no remainder. 10,126 is not, because dividing it by 675 leaves a remainder of 1.

How do I learn the 675 times table quickly?

Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
