Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 2: 5, 0.
- Every answer ends in 0 or 5.
- Split it into tens and ones: 95 × k = 90 × k + 5 × k.
- Each answer is 95 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 95.
Building it from tables you already know
To multiply 95 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 95 away: 950 − 95 = 855. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 95: 950 + 95 = 1,045. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 95 → 190 → 380.
There are 1 multiples of 95 below 100, and 10 below 1,000. A number is in the 95 times table exactly when it divides by 95 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 95 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 95 × 1 = 95 is odd, 95 × 2 = 190 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 95 × 10 = 950, and 95 × 100 = 9,500. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 950 is 475.
Using the 95 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 95 × 7 = 665, you know 665 ÷ 95 = 7 and 665 ÷ 7 = 95. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 95 pencils. How many pencils are in 8 boxes?
Answer
8 × 95 = 760 pencils. - Tickets cost $95 each. How much do 12 tickets cost?
Answer
12 × $95 = $1,140. - 190 chairs are set out in rows of 95. How many rows are there?
Answer
190 ÷ 95 = 2 rows. - A plant grows 95 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 12 weeks?
Answer
12 × 95 = 1,140 millimetres.
Questions
What is 95 × 12?
1,140.
What is half of 95 × 8?
95 × 8 = 760, and half of that is 380, which is 95 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 95 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 95 contain nothing.
What is 95 × 7 and 95 × 8?
95 × 7 = 665 and 95 × 8 = 760. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 1,425 in the 95 times table?
Yes: 1,425 ÷ 95 = 15 with no remainder. 1,426 is not, because dividing it by 95 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 95 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
