Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 10: 3, 6, 9, 2, 5, 8, 1, 4, 7, 0.
- Split it into tens and ones: 993 × k = 990 × k + 3 × k.
- Each answer is 993 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 993.
Building it from tables you already know
To multiply 993 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 993 away: 9,930 − 993 = 8,937. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 993: 9,930 + 993 = 10,923. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 993 → 1,986 → 3,972.
Every multiple of 993 is at least 993, so there are none below 100 and 1 below 1,000. A number is in the 993 times table exactly when it divides by 993 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 993 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 993 × 1 = 993 is odd, 993 × 2 = 1,986 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 993 × 10 = 9,930, and 993 × 100 = 99,300. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 9,930 is 4,965.
Using the 993 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 993 × 7 = 6,951, you know 6,951 ÷ 993 = 7 and 6,951 ÷ 7 = 993. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 993 pencils. How many pencils are in 8 boxes?
Answer
8 × 993 = 7,944 pencils. - Tickets cost $993 each. How much do 7 tickets cost?
Answer
7 × $993 = $6,951. - 2,979 chairs are set out in rows of 993. How many rows are there?
Answer
2,979 ÷ 993 = 3 rows. - A plant grows 993 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 9 weeks?
Answer
9 × 993 = 8,937 millimetres.
Questions
What is 993 × 12?
11,916.
What is half of 993 × 8?
993 × 8 = 7,944, and half of that is 3,972, which is 993 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 993 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 993 contain nothing.
What is 993 × 7 and 993 × 8?
993 × 7 = 6,951 and 993 × 8 = 7,944. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 14,895 in the 993 times table?
Yes: 14,895 ÷ 993 = 15 with no remainder. 14,896 is not, because dividing it by 993 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 993 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
