Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 5: 2, 4, 6, 8, 0.
- Every answer is even, because 1022 is even.
- Split it into tens and ones: 1022 × k = 1020 × k + 2 × k.
- Each answer is 1022 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 1022.
Building it from tables you already know
Every answer in the 1022 times table is double the answer in the 511 times table: 511 × 6 = 3,066, so 1022 × 6 = 6,132. To multiply 1022 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 1022 away: 10,220 − 1022 = 9,198. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 1022: 10,220 + 1022 = 11,242. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 1022 → 2,044 → 4,088.
Every multiple of 1022 is at least 1022, so there are none below 100 and 0 below 1,000. A number is in the 1022 times table exactly when it divides by 1022 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 1022 is even, every answer in its table is even, which is a quick way to catch a wrong answer. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 1022 × 10 = 10,220, and 1022 × 100 = 102,200. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 10,220 is 5,110.
Using the 1022 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 1022 × 7 = 7,154, you know 7,154 ÷ 1022 = 7 and 7,154 ÷ 7 = 1022. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 1022 pencils. How many pencils are in 5 boxes?
Answer
5 × 1022 = 5,110 pencils. - Tickets cost $1022 each. How much do 10 tickets cost?
Answer
10 × $1022 = $10,220. - 4,088 chairs are set out in rows of 1022. How many rows are there?
Answer
4,088 ÷ 1022 = 4 rows. - A plant grows 1022 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 10 weeks?
Answer
10 × 1022 = 10,220 millimetres.
Questions
What is 1022 × 12?
12,264.
What is half of 1022 × 8?
1022 × 8 = 8,176, and half of that is 4,088, which is 1022 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 1022 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 1022 contain nothing.
What is 1022 × 7 and 1022 × 8?
1022 × 7 = 7,154 and 1022 × 8 = 8,176. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 15,330 in the 1022 times table?
Yes: 15,330 ÷ 1022 = 15 with no remainder. 15,331 is not, because dividing it by 1022 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 1022 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
