Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 10: 3, 6, 9, 2, 5, 8, 1, 4, 7, 0.
- Split it into tens and ones: 1023 × k = 1020 × k + 3 × k.
- Each answer is 1023 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 1023.
Building it from tables you already know
To multiply 1023 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 1023 away: 10,230 − 1023 = 9,207. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 1023: 10,230 + 1023 = 11,253. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 1023 → 2,046 → 4,092.
Every multiple of 1023 is at least 1023, so there are none below 100 and 0 below 1,000. A number is in the 1023 times table exactly when it divides by 1023 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 1023 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 1023 × 1 = 1023 is odd, 1023 × 2 = 2,046 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 1023 × 10 = 10,230, and 1023 × 100 = 102,300. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 10,230 is 5,115.
Using the 1023 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 1023 × 7 = 7,161, you know 7,161 ÷ 1023 = 7 and 7,161 ÷ 7 = 1023. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 1023 pencils. How many pencils are in 5 boxes?
Answer
5 × 1023 = 5,115 pencils. - Tickets cost $1023 each. How much do 9 tickets cost?
Answer
9 × $1023 = $9,207. - 2,046 chairs are set out in rows of 1023. How many rows are there?
Answer
2,046 ÷ 1023 = 2 rows. - A plant grows 1023 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 6 weeks?
Answer
6 × 1023 = 6,138 millimetres.
Questions
What is 1023 × 12?
12,276.
What is half of 1023 × 8?
1023 × 8 = 8,184, and half of that is 4,092, which is 1023 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 1023 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 1023 contain nothing.
What is 1023 × 7 and 1023 × 8?
1023 × 7 = 7,161 and 1023 × 8 = 8,184. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 15,345 in the 1023 times table?
Yes: 15,345 ÷ 1023 = 15 with no remainder. 15,346 is not, because dividing it by 1023 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 1023 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
