Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 10: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0.
- Split it into tens and ones: 321 × k = 320 × k + 1 × k.
- Each answer is 321 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 321.
Building it from tables you already know
To multiply 321 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 321 away: 3,210 − 321 = 2,889. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 321: 3,210 + 321 = 3,531. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 321 → 642 → 1,284.
Every multiple of 321 is at least 321, so there are none below 100 and 3 below 1,000. A number is in the 321 times table exactly when it divides by 321 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 321 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 321 × 1 = 321 is odd, 321 × 2 = 642 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 321 × 10 = 3,210, and 321 × 100 = 32,100. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 3,210 is 1,605.
Using the 321 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 321 × 7 = 2,247, you know 2,247 ÷ 321 = 7 and 2,247 ÷ 7 = 321. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 321 pencils. How many pencils are in 6 boxes?
Answer
6 × 321 = 1,926 pencils. - Tickets cost $321 each. How much do 5 tickets cost?
Answer
5 × $321 = $1,605. - 1,284 chairs are set out in rows of 321. How many rows are there?
Answer
1,284 ÷ 321 = 4 rows. - A plant grows 321 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 6 weeks?
Answer
6 × 321 = 1,926 millimetres.
Questions
What is 321 × 12?
3,852.
What is half of 321 × 8?
321 × 8 = 2,568, and half of that is 1,284, which is 321 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 321 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 321 contain nothing.
What is 321 × 7 and 321 × 8?
321 × 7 = 2,247 and 321 × 8 = 2,568. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 4,815 in the 321 times table?
Yes: 4,815 ÷ 321 = 15 with no remainder. 4,816 is not, because dividing it by 321 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 321 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
