Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 5: 2, 4, 6, 8, 0.
- Every answer is even, because 52 is even.
- Split it into tens and ones: 52 × k = 50 × k + 2 × k.
- Each answer is 52 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 52.
Building it from tables you already know
Every answer in the 52 times table is double the answer in the 26 times table: 26 × 6 = 156, so 52 × 6 = 312. To multiply 52 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 52 away: 520 − 52 = 468. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 52: 520 + 52 = 572. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 52 → 104 → 208.
There are 1 multiples of 52 below 100, and 19 below 1,000. A number is in the 52 times table exactly when it divides by 52 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 52 is even, every answer in its table is even, which is a quick way to catch a wrong answer. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 52 × 10 = 520, and 52 × 100 = 5,200. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 520 is 260.
Using the 52 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 52 × 7 = 364, you know 364 ÷ 52 = 7 and 364 ÷ 7 = 52. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 52 pencils. How many pencils are in 5 boxes?
Answer
5 × 52 = 260 pencils. - Tickets cost $52 each. How much do 9 tickets cost?
Answer
9 × $52 = $468. - 104 chairs are set out in rows of 52. How many rows are there?
Answer
104 ÷ 52 = 2 rows. - A plant grows 52 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 9 weeks?
Answer
9 × 52 = 468 millimetres.
Questions
What is 52 × 12?
624.
What is half of 52 × 8?
52 × 8 = 416, and half of that is 208, which is 52 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 52 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 52 contain nothing.
What is 52 × 7 and 52 × 8?
52 × 7 = 364 and 52 × 8 = 416. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 780 in the 52 times table?
Yes: 780 ÷ 52 = 15 with no remainder. 781 is not, because dividing it by 52 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 52 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
